It should burn
swallowing the flame
scorching my tongue
blisters lining my throat
as the smoke races ahead
inflating my lungs
suffocating the air
with nowhere to go
It should burn
But I crave it
the consumption,
the need to be engulfed,
swaddled from within
the emptiness seducing me
to swallow again
